How to make your own {tasty} fruit snacks!

Last weekend we ventured into the world of DIY fruit snacks (or gummies).  Whatever you'd like to call them, I was skeptical but for the sake of doing "something fun" with the boys, I pressed on. :)
There are a million recipes for fruit snacks online, so I perused a few and chose my ingredients.

Whatever you do, do not use watermelon.  It sounds like a good idea but it just doesn't have enough flavor to give you a tasty snack.  I started out using watermelon and quickly switched to strawberry once I realized how bland they were shaping up to be.
You only need FOUR things!
2 cups of fresh juice (I used strawberries, hulled and pureed in the blender, I did not strain them).  You could use any strong tasting fruit (I assume).
1 cup of water
6 tbls of unflavored gelatin (found with the Jello I had to buy three boxes to have enough)
honey (to taste)
Divide the juice.  Half in a wide bowl and half in a sauce pan.  Sprinkle the gelatin over the juice, whisk gently and slowly just to make sure you don't have clumps and just leave it alone for now to do it's thing (gel up).

Slowly warm up the other juice in the pan.  Do not boil, just warm it.  Once the juice is warmed, slowly add the rest of the juice/gel mix.  Whisk until smooth, remove from heat, add water and honey (if needed).
Pour into molds or one large pan.  Chill for 30 minutes.
And that's it!  While my 5 and 7 year old loved them, I think they would be great for toddlers and babies still eating soft foods!  You know exactly what is in them and you can play around with flavors! Kiwi, blueberry, etc, just strain if you feel like you need to!

Have fun making some! xoxo
