When the chance came up to make over a room with my friends at Sherwin-Williams, I just KNEW what room was desperate for some love and character...my boys' bathroom!
Let's face it, a boys' bathroom will always be a BOYS' bathroom, if you know what I mean (mothers of boys, you KNOW what I am talking about), but I was hoping that throwing in a little character might help. When we moved into this house, I was SO excited for them to have their own bathroom. However, it also doubles as a guest room, so making it look a nice is a priority.
Step one: Find an inspiration piece. Something you love and want to build a room around. For me, it was an awesome shower curtain I found at one of my favorite places (you'll have to wait for the "after" to see it) and the color orange. I don't know why orange, I just wanted it that way. :) I'm going for boy and guest-friendly here.
Step two: Download the Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap® app to my smartphone and use that to pull a favorable color out of my inspiration piece. The app is pretty cool...you take a photo (or upload one), and it pulls colors out of your photo that you can go into your local Sherwin-Williams to buy. It's a great way to know that your paint will match or go along with what you are trying to work with. Choosing colors doesn't stress me out (it's just paint), but I can imagine this tool being a great stress relief to some. Not only does the app show you a main color to use, but it also shows you some great coordinating colors!
Step three: Head on into your local Sherwin-Williams and choose one of their awesome paint lines (the SuperPaint® and HGTV® HOME by Sherwin-Williams were my favorites) to suit your needs. The folks working at our local store were super friendly and helpful. The store carries everything you need to get the job done, and I LOVED that the staff wasn't pushy; they offer their services, step back and let you think. Non-pushy wins every time.
Step four: Get rid of boooooooring bathroom! :) I can't wait to show you the end result! I think I really achieved "boy and guest-friendly"! I honestly think the paint pulls all my details together nicely, and the scrubbable finish makes for a much cleaner boys' bathroom. :)
Stay tuned for the after!

For inspiration I find one piece I love and will match colors to that. For our living room it was some pillows I made.

Lol why is it that the first thing that really JUMPED out at me is that you roll your toilet paper UNDER?! What's WITH that? ;) lol
I LOVE houzz.com for inspiration :) We are hoping to start building our dream home (as much dreaming as fits in the budget ;) in the next month or so, and have found houzz.com AWESOME for any and all kinds of house ideas... :)
We will moving into a new house soon, and I'm so excited to paint. The current colors are great, however they were the sellers' home colors. We will gather color inspiration from some of our favorite items. As graduates from the same college, in Ohio, a lot of our fan apparel and decorations are green. Colors that coordinate with a dark green help not make the room forest-like!
I'll be working on a boy bathroom/guest bathroom at our new house very soon.. can't wait to see your final!
I look at color samples and find a favorite piece to build a room around.
I have a couple Pinterest boards dedicated to color palettes I love and have also decorated rooms around fabric.
I definitely find color inspiration from the fabric aspect of a room first. You can mix a zillion different colors, but it's really hard to find a great fabric in an exact shade with a terrific pattern after you've already fallen in love with the color of some other aspect of a room!
I find color inspiration from nature. I like greens, blues and browns so I usually go for these types of shades.

To choose colors, I usually end up finding an item that I love and using a color from that. My girls' room is blue and grey because those are the colors in the curtains that they love. My bathroom is yellow because of the shower curtain I picked out. I would love a gift card, I have 3 more bathrooms to decorate!
ooh, can't wait to see what you do with the space, I have the same problem couldn't defiantly use some color inspiration
I use pinterest and country home type mags to find inspiration. I like a lot of blues, greys, and whites at home.
I can really find inspiration anywhere. The last time I got paint I brought one of my babies' toys to match - not because I was trying to match that toy; it just had the *perfect* shade of blue on it!
Our master bedroom could use work. I really like our current comforter, but I would LOVE to find better paint to coordinate with it, and be inspired with more colors to use in the room.

Look through magazines to things that catch my eye
I choose a piece that I love, usually with a fun print, and use it for inspiration for the rest of the room. I also try to consider the mood a color will create in the room blues for a relaxing environment, reds to add energy, yellows to add cheer, etc.
I like to take tours of homes that are for sale.

I love surfing Pinterest to get ideas on designs I like. I have a hard time visualizing how a finished room will look. It helps me to actually see the colors in a home.
Picking paint colors is my least favorite job. :( I do love my local Sherwin Williams store though and stop in for lots of paint chips which I hang up on the wall. :) Pinterest, magazines, those are the places I go for color inspiration.
I get color inspiration from the outdoor places that I love....forest, beach
I usually find my inspiration from a piece of artwork that I want to hang in the room. Or if it's my bedroom I find my inspiration in a comforter I love. And then I match the paint to that.

It used to be magazines - now it is often online blogs that provide inspiration. Love the before and after situations. The inspiration I take away is often a combination and sometimes I fall in love with the before rather then the new.
I would tweet for an entry, but you've overlaid PIN IT which I don't get credit for. And you've disabled copy and paste which is ackward to get the specific correct verbage to get the tweet to count for an entry. Perhaps that why your entries are lower than other blogs
Color inspiration? I love blogs, and also love pinterest, anything on pinterest.
