Best Buy Review- Num 1-Zeo Sleep Manager
Hi friends! As I alluded to before, I have gotten the chance to review some fun new fitness products from Best Buy along with participating in a new fitness regime by experts from BlogHer.
I'm excited for this boost in my motivation to make 2012 the best year EVER and I am excited to share my thoughts and experiences with YOU my super awesome readers.
Please know that any opinions expressed are my own, honest ones. I won't mislead you and if you ever have further questions about a product I am reviewing, please feel free to email me, and I will do my best to help.
So, with all that said...first up for review is the Zeo Sleep Manager.
Can I be honest and say that I had no idea what this gadget did when it landed on my doorstep? I am far from a technology dinosaur, but at the same time, if there is a technical issue with anything, I let my husband handle it. If there is something new and great to be had, it is brought to my attention by my husband.
But I dove in, by MYSELF, and figured it all out. And really, it wasn't that hard.
The set up and prep to start using it was as easy as plugging in the head set to charge, downloading a new app on my iPhone, and we were off. It was VERY easy.
The hardest part was getting the headband adjusted to the perfect sweet spot of holding the (very light and small) device in place on my forehead and not giving myself a headband headache, which I am very prone to. The soft elastic band and easy-to-move Velcro made it easy to get this done though, and within about 15 minutes I was good to go.
The basic concept, in Crystal terms, is that you wear this headband type device on your head, it monitors your sleep cycles, relays them to your phone wirelessly, and then its online program helps you find weak spots and areas and ways to improve your overall sleep health.
That's the technical part. The non-technical part? It's been cool to wake up in the morning and be able to see my sleep pattern for the night. The best part, for me, has been that it tells you how much ACTUAL sleep I am getting at night.
Let's just say I tend to be an overestimator. Ask me how much sleep I got last night, and before the Zeo Mobile I would have said something like, "Oh, like seven or eight hours." The Zeo says, "Um, no, you got six hours and twenty minutes." It's like a reality check to work on ACTUALLY getting seven or eight hours.
The online program helps you to identify, through journaling, what they call "sleep stealers" and how to change them to result in better quality sleep.
The cons for me so far have been getting the headband to stay in place all night and having weird dreams about tiny robots sitting on my head monitoring my sleep through the night.
I kid you not.
I'm an active sleeper, just ask my husband, so its been no surprise that almost once a night the headband will slip down on my head, but overall it has not caused a disruption in the sleep monitoring or my sleep. It's easier to sleep with than having your hair in curlers.
If you are looking for ways to improve your overall health, a Zeo Sleep Manager may be a good place to start. If you need to make changes in the area of sleep, this would be the equivalent to having a "sleep coach" to help you look over habits and fine tune your sleep health. It seems that it would work well with the type of people who would jump in and use ALL of the resources that Zeo makes available and with the type of people, like me, who need a reality check.
In a nutshell: you can get a full picture of your sleep habits with this mobile sleep manager that features an adjustable SoftWave sensor headband to track sleep stages and measure REM and deep sleep.
The SmartWake alarm helps you wake up refreshed and ready for your day.
It's been fun and helpful to now have access to my "sleep data".
And Best Buy and BlogHer want one of YOU to have a chance to improve your sleep habits as well. I've been given the opportunity to gift ONE of you with your very own Zeo Sleep Manager!!

40 sweet friends chimed in...:
I have never heard of this, but it sounds pretty cool. I've always been a "good" sleeper, but I am currently pregnant (with twins!) and I find myself waking up a LOT throughout the night. (A lot.) I think this would be really cool to check out.
WHat a clever invention! My husband could really use this.
oh my husband would get so much out of this. he has such a hard time sleeping! i've got my fingers crossed!!
I would love to win this. I am a horrible sleeper. I need all of the help I can get!
since i read this as a ZERO SLEEP manager, i think i realllllllllllly need to win! HA! thank you, crystal! xoxo.
This sounds super cool! Would love to have one.
Sounds great! I think I also overestimate how much sleep I'm actually getting-real numbers would be so helpful, and probably inspire me to get more sleep!
This looks like fun! Which I suppose makes me a super dork!! Thanks! :)
I think I really need to try this gadget! I had no idea that such a thing existed, and I think I could really benefit from it. My husband wakes me up often in the night (snoring, grinding his teeth, talking, hogging blankets), not to mention any of our 4 kids, or dog moving around in the night. I wake up most mornings feeling exhausted and I wonder if it is even worse than I realize. It is very rare that I wake up feeling rested or energized and ready to start my day. I would love to know if I am getting any quality of sleep, or if it just feels worse than it is. What a brilliant invention!!! (I also originally read it as "zero sleep". lol)
Wow!! This device sounds like just what My hubby needs. I'm nagging him to get s sleep study & I think he'd be more apt to try this at home.
I'd love to know about my sleep patterns! :)
I have sleep issues!!! I would love to win this!
I need once of these for my husband, he is a bad sleeper. Although I would really sad to see how much sleep I don't really get. LOL
I think this sounds like an awesome little gadget to check out! I am very intrigued by the whole concept!
Happy New Year Crystal!
I would love to try this, thanks for the contest!
I would love to try this. Thanks for the review and the contest!
this COULD save me from a trip to the sleep center. i was recommended but you know...higher priorities? it is SO needed, though!
I am such a nerd, that I would love to see the charts it makes for sleep patterns.
How Awesome! This is right up my alley
....This would be so awesome to have. Great Giveaway. Thanks ;) I know I need to work on my sleeping habits. The bags under my eyes give it all away.
I woud love to win one of these and think it would be amazingly helpful for me!
This sounds like an interesting gadget. Maybe if I actually saw how much sleep I was really getting I'd go to bed earlier (instead of posting comments on blogs at 12:30 at night). I wonder if it would help detect if there was a sleep disorder (like insomnia, sleep apnea, etc.) and recommend you to seek the advice of a physician?
This would be an amazing help! It's bad enough that I'm never tired enough to WANT to go to sleep but when I DO, I always end up waking up feeling like I just pulled an all nighter. I am convinced I really only sleep about 2 hours a night and I would LOVE help fixing it!
Oh my. I have never wanted to win a blog giveaway more than this. My mom has MAJOR sleep problems. I would do anything to help her sleep better. I would love to know more about this.
I would love to win this in order to help my mom who has MAJOR sleep deprivation issues.
This sounds so cool! I have a 27 month old and a 9 month who share a room next to my room. I would be curious to see how little sleep I am actually getting ;).
It would be really cool to win this! It seems that no matter what time I go to bed, 9 or 12, I always have to drag my tired butt out of bed in the morning and I'm tired ALL THE TIME. It would be nice to find out what's wrong with my brain. :P
Huh. That's pretty cool. I should check to see if it works for 'Droid. My husband could really use something like that.
Laurie
This is interesting. I'm thinking this would be great to help me and my husband with our sleep patterns/habits.
Wow. Sounds like something I could use. Thanks for sharing!
I was just thinking about this very thing! A friend just told me about his experiences with being sleep monitored and it made me think I needed to as well. BTW, I am new to your blog and enjoy it. Can't wait to read more but really should get some sleep! Thanks, mnrridgeway (at) gmail(dot)com.
thats fascinating...i would love to be able to track my sleep! do you have to have an iphone??
I definitely could benefit from this. I can not wake up in the mornings...like ever. My poor husband has to wake me up. For some reason, i do not hear the alarm and let me tell you - It is LOUD.
I could definitely benefit from something like them. My husband would be forever grateful. He has the daunting task of waking me up every morning. No matter how loud my alarm is I do not hear it... Not EVER. It is almost scary. He thinks I would just sleep through a tornado. I would love to see what is going on.
That sounds so neat! I think it might be scary to see how I sleep! Thank you for the chance to win!
This device sounds really interesting and useful. Never thought of such a device.
