flower num. 2~ruffled poppy.

welcome to flower week day two!!
let me start by saying that i realize that i am not showing you anything NEW...i realize that others have done these same tutorials before (their way)....that some (lots of) people sell flowers like these...but i thought it would be fun to share how to make FUN and funky flowers HERE on my own blog...with my own wonderful readers...in my own words and ways. :) you ready to make some?

i gave these as a gift to moses' teachers...
start with fabric...folded selvage to selvage...cut into 2in strips...
you will need some felt circles... 1 1/2in or so...
since these were a teacher gift, i used pencils...you could use dowels...plain or painted.
 start at one end...
using hot glue...glue the top of your pencil on place...
 ...and roll...glue...pleat...roll...glue...pleat...
...hold your work in place as best you can as you go...
 bigger/smaller pleats make different petals...
continue gluing and pleating until you get to the end...and then glue the end down...
cut a slit to the center of your circle...then cut out a pencil sized circle...
and glue it around the base of your flower...
..and done.  this is one way.  i do not prefer this way.  i got two glue gun blisters from doing it this way...so here is the sewing way...
you start by making a ruffle...if you don't have a ruffle foot...then set your sewing machine on the LONGest stitch...
 ...and sew along the edge...
i did this with my ruffler...if you don't have one...after you stitch along the edge you can gently pull on the top or bottom thread...and your fabric will ruffle...
...lay your ruffle out...glue your pencil to the end and start rolling...
...add a line of glue...continue to the end...and add a felt circle as shown above.
...and done...make as many as you want in happy pretty colors...
happy messy prettiness. :)

come tomorrow for another!
