julia project num. 1

i finished my first julie project!
this one was for four picnic placemats.
but as i made them i thought about how great they would
be for eating out...that is if you are one
of those moms like me who wipe down every
surface in reach of your kids in a public restaurant.

what i did different: i added a ribbon tie to the side, so
when you roll them up, you can tie them up. :)

what i learned: ironing really DOES make the sewing
easier.  i can't believe i just typed that.  i hate to iron.

if you would like to claim one before i add them to the
shop they will be $6 each plus $2 shipping.
just email me. :)

they measure approx 15 1/2in by 10 1/2in.  washable.
there is a pocket for the utensils and napkin.

Also this weekend I made my first :

Chocolate Cream Pie

  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (9 inch) pie shell, baked
  1. Combine sugar, flour, milk, and chopped up chocolate in 2 quart saucepan. Stirring constantly, cook over medium heat until mixture begins to bubble. Continue stirring for 2 minutes.
  2. Mix a little of the hot mixture into the egg yolks, beating rapidly to avoid cooking the yolks. Stir the warm yolk mixture into the remainder of the chocolate mixture, and cook for an additional 90 seconds. Remove from heat, and stir in butter or margarine and vanilla.
  3. Pour filling into pie shell, and chill until set. Top with whipped topping, and a little grated chocolate.

Totally indulgent...and yummy...and pretty easy too. :)

Yay!! I'm so excited that you are starting your Julia project! Those are FAB and would be so perfect for eating out. And thanks to your darn pie pic, all I want for breakfast is pie now.

They turned out great!! :) And I must agree with you...ironing is considered to be one of those ugly 4-letter words in my house...I may in fact be the only person who owns an expensive Rowenta iron (which I received as a hand-me-down courtesy of my lovely mother) that strictly gets used for sewing/crafting purposes!! :) But ironing is a necessary evil for crisp sewing seams!! Happy Monday!!

The placemats would be great for eating out...I love the versatility that they roll up, so just throw in your bag and GO! Love them.

cute place mats. i love the idea of being able to roll them up and transport them.

i made a chocolate cream {i call it french silk} pie this weekend as well. i made my first from scratch crust. it was so much easier to do than i thought... i started a post on it for tomorrow.

your blog is darling. your craftiness is inspiring. where was this idea when my kiddos were littles.

i especially enjoyed your "about me."

and the note on the side that reads "there are 24 usable hours in every day." i often forget that sweet truth.

What clever placemats-esp. with the ribbon. These would be great for the many church potlucks and picnics we have! The pie also looks yummy...I've been looking for a good use for the unsweetened chocolate we bought when we actually needed sweetened...

those place mats are great! better with the ribbon too! that way they don't take too much space in the momma bag (which seems to weigh too much already!)....
